Welcome to Natureviewmedia.com!
My name is Carl Gerhardt and I am a professional biologist specializing in animal communication (LAB WEBPAGE). During my field work, I have collected high-definition video and photographs of many kinds of animals from around the world: North America, Mexico, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Trinidad, Argentina, Antarctica, Australia and Europe. My high-definition stock includes video of more than 1600 species. Most are birds, amphibians and reptiles, but I have some footage of mammals and insects, a few special plants (e.g. pitcher plants), and habitats. Many of the bird and frog videos include high-quality, stereo sound tracks recorded with Sennheiser shotgun microphones. My footage has appeared in PBS, BBC and other professional productions as well as in not-for-profit web productions such as MIRACLEOFNATURE.ORG
On this website you can download a pdf of a database to see what’s available, and you can follow links to sample movies to check out the quality. Most of the footage was encoded as xdcam (100 mbits/s; 4:2:2 via Convergent Designs Flash XDR or nanoflash recorders) and has been archived as ProRes 422 or ProResHQ 422. More recently I have also been using a Sony FS700 to acquire 4k footage and 2k 249 frames/s footage (for slow motion – see the Slow-Motion sampler in the Video Galleries pulldown menu) as well as a Sony AX100 for UHD at 100 mbps. Common names in red text indicate that I have one or more clips in UHD or 4k; common names in italics indicate that I have slow-motion footage. The catalog lists the camcorder(s) used to acquire the footage and its original format.
If you find footage you would like to consider for a production, I will send you a compilation for your inspection or upload footage to vimeo.com as a private – password protected – movie. We can then negotiate a price based on the footage you need and its use (one-time rights, exclusive rights, etc).
